The Nordlys IPL laser treatment uses intense pulses of light to target specific skin problems. Here is an overview of how this technology works:
1. Pulses of light: the Nordlys IPL laser emits pulses of light that are absorbed by chromophores in the skin. Chromophores are substances that absorb light, such as haemoglobin in blood vessels or melanin in pigment spots.
2. Thermal reaction: the absorbed light causes a thermal reaction that targets the unwanted cells or structures. This heat specifically destroys the target structures, such as damaged blood vessels or pigment spots, without damaging the surrounding healthy tissue.
3. Treatment options:
- Vascular and pigment treatments: IPL technology effectively removes vascular and pigmentary damage due to the specific wavelength of light that targets haemoglobin and melanin.
- Skin rejuvenation: using a fractional laser, IPL treatment can also be used for skin rejuvenation. This includes improving skin texture, reducing acne scars and fine lines by controlled damage to the skin to stimulate the production of new collagen.
The Nordlys IPL laser treatment offers a versatile approach to skin improvement through the precision of light pulses and the power of thermal reactions, resulting in an effective and safe treatment for various skin problems.
Nordlys IPL laser treatment is suitable for a wide range of patients and indications, including:
• Pigment damage: such as age spots, sun spots and melasma.
• Vascular lesions: such as rosacea, teleangiectasias (spider veins), and varicose veins.
• Skin rejuvenation: reduction of fine lines, wrinkles, and improvement of skin texture.
• Acne scars: active acne.
Pigmentation and diffuse redness dramaticallyreduce and skin texture and pore size improve. Immediately after IPL laser treatment, the pigmentation will become darker in colour and a few days after treatment, the pigmentation will develop a light scab. This scab is a good sign, meaning the treatment has worked. This scab will go away on its own.
To get the best results, a minimum of 3 treatments are needed on average, with a 4-week break between treatments. After that, the skin will look fresher and smoother. Additional treatments may be needed at a later stage to maintain the result. This treatment is allowed in Belgium from the age of 18.
IPL laser treatment offers a range of benefits for effective and efficient skin improvement:
• Optimal results with fewer treatments: often fewer sessions are needed to achieve visible and long-lasting results.
• Versatility: IPL is suitable for a wide range of skin problems, including scars, pigmentation, diffuse redness, acne, rosacea, sun damage, and port wine stains.
• Treating large areas: the technology enables effective treatment of larger skin areas.
• Fast treatment time: treatment is fast and efficient, making it an ideal option for busy schedules.
• Precision and safety: selective wavelengths increase treatment accuracy and minimise damage to surrounding healthy tissue.
• Minimal recovery time: most people experience only a short downtime after treatment, ensuring a smooth return to daily activities.
• High effectiveness: IPL treatments typically have high success rates in improving skin conditions and promoting skin rejuvenation.

Although IPL laser treatment is generally safe, slight side effects may occur, including:
Before treatment:
The IPL laser works best on light skin that has not been tanned by the sun, tanning bed or self-tanner.
4 weeks before treatment, avoid sunlight and consistently use sunscreen with SPF 50.
After treatment:
Immediately after treatment, some swelling and redness may occur. Therefore, a soothing and moisturising cream is applied immediately after treatment. It is recommended to avoid direct sunlight for up to 3 months after treatment and always use a sunscreen with SPF 50.
