What are fillers?

Fillers, or dermal fillers, are substances injected under the skin to correct volume loss, wrinkles and fine lines. They are often used to achieve a more youthful appearance by restoring lost volume and improving skin texture. Most fillers contain hyaluronic acid, a body's own substance that attracts and retains moisture, leaving the skin feeling plumper and hydrated.

Applications of fillers:

  1. Filling wrinkles and fine lines:
    • Fillers are used to reduce static wrinkles and fine lines. These are wrinkles that do not disappear with facial movements, such as nasolabial folds (lines from the nose to the corners of the mouth) and marionette lines (lines running down from the corners of the mouth).
  2. Beautifying facial contours:
    • Fillers can be used to improve facial contours, such as accentuating cheekbones or enhancing the jawline.
  3. Restoring lost volume:
    • As the skin ages, it can lose volume, especially in areas such as the cheeks. Fillers help restore this lost volume for a fuller and more youthful appearance.

    Benefits of fillers:

    • Quick results: the effect of fillers is often immediate, with a more youthful and fresh appearance.
    • Minimal recovery time: the procedure usually has a short recovery time, allowing patients to quickly resume their normal activities.
    • Natural look: good fillers offer a natural result that subtly integrates with the existing facial structure.
    • Reversible: hyaluronic acid fillers can be dissolved with hyaluronidase if there is an undesirable result.

    Some common types of fillers:

    • Hyaluronic acid fillers: the most commonly used fillers, such as Restylane and Juvederm, offer immediate volume enhancement and hydration.
    • Calcium hydroxylapatite: these fillers, such as Radiesse, stimulate collagen production in addition to the immediate volume effect.
    • Poly-L-lactin: fillers like Sculptra help encourage the skin to produce its own collagen for long-term results.

Everything you need to know about fillers

Who is this treatment suitable for?

Fillers are ideal for people who:
• Want to reduce the signs of ageing: such as loss of facial volume and the reduction of fine lines and wrinkles.
• Want to improve specific facial features: for example, making the lips fuller and better shaped.
• Want to improve facial symmetry and balance: fillers can help restore facial harmony.

Treatment by professionals

At I Care Clinic, fillers are performed by experienced aesthetic surgeons Dr Decoene and Dr Malinowska. Their expertise ensures safe and effective treatment. The procedure is suitable for both men and women and is allowed from the age of 18.

Approach of I Care Clinic

• Holistic approach: instead of just adding volume, I Care Clinic focuses on improving overall facial symmetry and balance. Fillers are injected into the source of the problem, resulting in a more natural and harmonious appearance.
• Safety and quality: the team uses biodegradable, natural fillers that do not contain any animal substances. These fillers are safe and are supplied by reputable brands with the necessary certificates and studies.

How does the treatment proceed?

01

Consultation

During the initial consultation, you will discuss your desired results and your needs and expectations will be assessed.

02

Treatment

The treatment takes about 30 minutes. Fillers are injected into specific areas of the face using a fine needle. This is usually done without anaesthetic, but in some cases a local anaesthetic may be applied for extra comfort.

03

Aftercare

After treatment, you can immediately resume your normal activities. Slight redness or swelling may occur, but this usually disappears quickly.

04

Results

The effects of the fillers are usually immediate. However, the final result becomes fully apparent only after a few days, when any swelling has subsided and the product is well integrated into the skin.

How does the treatment proceed?

Benefits of fillers:

1. Long-lasting results
• Fillers offer a natural result that usually lasts for 12 to 24 months. Since I Care Clinic uses temporary fillers, the product is broken down by the body itself. This makes it a safe choice with the possibility of repeating the treatment if desired.
2. Hydration
• Hyaluronic acid, a key ingredient in many fillers, attracts and retains moisture. This provides extra hydration to the skin, contributing to a fresh and youthful appearance.
3. Reduction of wrinkles
• Fillers help smoothen the skin by filling in wrinkles and fine lines. This results in younger and tighter skin.
4. Minimal recovery time
• Treatment with fillers usually has little impact on your daily routine, allowing you to resume your normal activities almost immediately after the procedure.
5. More volume
• Fillers can restore lost volume to the face, achieving a younger appearance. This is especially useful for areas where volume has been reduced due to ageing or weight loss.
6. Correcting asymmetry
• Fillers can be used to correct uneven shapes or asymmetry in the face. This creates a more balanced and harmonious appearance.

What does aftercare involve?

  • Your skin mainly needs rest now. Therefore, try to avoid contact with the treated areas as much as possible, so also preferably not rubbing (to avoid driving the filler to unwanted areas).
  • It is not necessary to massage the treated area if this has not been recommended by your doctor. It is advised not to use make-up for 6 hours after treatment.
  • The use of painkillers such as ibuprofen and aspirin is not recommended due to their stimulating effect on bruising and discolouration. If you do wish to use painkillers, we recommend paracetamol.
  • On the day itself, after the treatment, protect your skin well from the sun. We recommend using sun protection with at least SPF 30 and exposing your skin to the sun as briefly as possible (preferably not at all). If necessary, also wear a well-protective sun hat. Careful wearing of sun protection is recommended on a daily basis throughout the year.
  • Do not undertake strenuous exercise for the first 2 days after treatment.
  • Do not visit sauna or sunbed for the first 4 days after treatment.

Possible side effects

arrow

Treatments with injectables usually do not have many side effects. Generally, you are just presentable again the day after treatment. Immediately after treatment, there may be redness or swelling but this is usually short-lived (minutes-hours). Sometimes blue spots may appear. These too are temporary and clear up within a few days. As no open wounds are created by the punctures, make-up can be used normally 6 hours after treatment. This means that any redness can be camouflaged. It does not affect the result and there is no risk of infection.
Within a few days, the skin usually looks normal again, depending on the extent of the treatment and the technique and filler used. The doctor will tell you in advance what reaction to expect. Also, the result is much more beautiful after a few days than immediately after treatment. If you have any questions about a reaction afterwards, you can always contact the clinic.
