What is an abdominoplasty?

A tummy tuck, or abdominoplasty, is a surgical procedure that we use to make your abdomen tighter and flatter again. During the procedure, we remove excess skin and fat from the abdomen and tighten the underlying muscles. This procedure is ideal for anyone who dreams of a slimmer, tighter abdominal profile.

Who is a tummy tuck suitable for?

A tummy tuck is perfect for both men and women who suffer from excess skin or fat in the abdominal area, especially if diet and exercise are not producing the desired results. This procedure is often a godsend for women who can no longer achieve a tight tummy after multiple pregnancies or significant weight loss. It can also help if you are dealing with a sagging abdominal wall due to ageing.

How does a tummy tuck work?

01

Consultation

The procedure begins with a comprehensive consultation in which you discuss your wishes and expectations with the surgeon. The surgeon will review your medical history and perform a physical examination to properly assess everything.

02

Preparation

Before the operation, you will be given clear instructions on how to prepare. This may include stopping smoking and avoiding certain medicines.

03

The operation

The operation itself usually takes place under general anaesthesia and lasts a few hours. The surgeon makes a horizontal incision just above the pubic bone, removes excess skin and fat and tightens the abdomen.

04

Closing the incisions

After removing the excess tissue, your abdominal muscles are tightened, the skin is pulled into place and the incisions are sutured.

05

Care

After surgery, you will receive instructions on how to care for the wound, what activities to avoid and when to come back for follow-up appointments.
