Warts, also known as verrucae, are benign growths of the skin usually caused by a virus. There are different types of verrucae and sometimes it is hard to tell the difference from a mole. Fortunately, birthmarks and warts can be treated well. There are different types of warts:
Verruca vulgaris:
Skin-coloured, flat or semi-spherical warts with a cornified surface. The size varies from smaller than a millimetre to larger than a centimetre. Commonly localised on fingers, backs of hands, elbows and knees.
Verrucae plantares:
Cornified warts under the soles of the feet with a central collapse. Characteristic of these warts are black dots.
Butcher's warts:
cauliflower-like lesions on the backs of the hands, fingers, around the nails and in the palms.
Age-related warts (verruca seborrhoica):
Small raised patches initially coloured yellow and later brown to black. Common in people over 50 with preferred locations on the face, chest, abdomen and back.
Fibromas/steel warts:
Soft benign skin bulges in the form of a lump or stalk. The skin-coloured or light brown growths can occur anywhere on the body. Preferred locations, however, are the neck, armpits, under the breasts and in the groin.
Warts and fibroids are not only bothersome, they also cause a lot of discomfort. Book a consultation with I Care Clinic now and before you realise it, you will be rid of these unmentionables. Depending on the type of warts or fibromas, we use one or more of the following techniques: freezing (cryotherapy), surgical excision (cutting away) and laser therapy.
